Satricvm

Satricvm (Le Ferriere), oggi un piccolo Borgo nelle campagne dell’Agro Pontino, sul Fiume Astura, era un’estesa e fiorente città fondata da popoli latini che abitavano nella zona tra il Tevere e il promontorio di San Felice Circeo, in seguito abitata dai Volsci e dai Romani. Luogo di scambi commerciali e culturali tra il Mare, i Monti Lepini e Roma. Il punto di riferimento del sito era l’Acropoli con il tempio di Mater Matuta, la madre del mattino che, al sorgere del sole, è quotidiana metafora della vita che comincia.

Satricum, now known as Borgo Le Ferriere, is a small village in the middle of Agro Pontino countryside by the River Astura. It was once a thriving and prosperous city founded by the Latin peoples, who settled between the Tiber River and the San Felice Circeo promontory. It later became home to the Volsci and Romans. A hub of commercial and cultural exchange between the sea, the Lepini Mountains and Rome, the city’s focal point was the Acropolis, crowned by the Temple of Mater Matuta—goddess of the dawn.
